A Steady Hand for Clatsop County

Mark Kujala:

Accessibility. Accountability. Transparency.

I was born and raised on Galena Avenue along the Skipanon River, and today I live just blocks from Fort Stevens State Park with my wife, Alana. We’re blessed with two daughters, Karlie and Kaia.

I’m honored to serve as your District 1 commissioner and chair of the Clatsop County Board of Commissioners. I also serve as executive director of the Columbia Memorial Hospital Foundation. In both roles, I focus on practical solutions, collaboration, and responsiveness.

Over the past two terms, your trust has allowed us to accomplish real results for Clatsop County: from building a new county jail, to securing a $1 million federal earmark for emergency communications, to advancing economic development at Tongue Point and the North Coast Business Park. There’s more to do, and I’d be honored to keep serving you.

Ongoing Priorities

  • Emergency Communications & Public Safety – Leading the effort to consolidate 911 services across Clatsop County, backed by a $1 million federal earmark. Ensuring first responders and the public have reliable, modern emergency communication.

  • Economic Development & Family-Wage Jobs – Implementing the county’s Economic Opportunity Analysis to attract employers, grow traditional industries, and support development at Tongue Point, Westport Ferry Landing, and the North Coast Business Park.

  • Housing You Can Afford – Making county land available for workforce and affordable housing in Astoria. Supporting public-private partnerships and removing barriers to responsible development in every community.

“Clatsop County deserves steady, commonsense leadership from people who know this community. I’ll continue to champion accessibility, accountability, and transparency on your county commission.”
